When my daughter was a baby, my mother gave me a pair of Christmas decorations. They're hand-carved from some kind of wood and obviously rather old. The bottom of one is stamped "Made in German Democratic Republic" and I know that it was established in 1949 and ended in 1990 but I'm thinking these are probably from the beginning of the period. This is one of the decorations:



The two decorations are identical and the red baskets on the end are candleholders. I've tried researching them on my own but my Google-fu is failing me. We would like more information on them and unfortunately, my mother passed away last year so I can't ask her where they came from. Does anybody know of a site that might be able to help me? If any of the German members of AMA know anything about it, that would be great too!
