For the summer I interned at the Library of Congress in D.C. helping a scholar there do research. I spent a lot of time with him and he really taught me so much, and was just a generally wonderful human being. However next Tuesday is my last day with him. I don't live in D.C., and the chances of me seeing him again are very slim. So on my last day I want to give him a little gift out of gratitude. Despite all the time we spent together, I can't say I know much about his personal life or even his personal tastes, so I can't really get any ideas from that. I just want to get him a little something to show how much I enjoyed working with him, as well as maybe have it be a little something he can remember me by. My first thought was something edible, but I'd like it to be something he can hang on to. I suppose I could always get him a card, but I feel like people are more inclined to quickly throw those away.
So any ideas for nice, kind of generic, but still lovely little gifts?
