I'm totally being nitpicky here, but I do know religious people who use prayers before meals as a way of acknowledging where their food comes from; not only thanking a higher power, but acknowledging the human labour that goes into it.
I agree with it to an extent, and realize it's intended to be hyperbolic for the purpose of the message it's conveying, but that isn't (in my experiences, at least) what people are giving thanks for, so it sort of misses the point. The people I know who pray before a meal and give thanks for the food in front of them aren't under some delusion that Jesus literally gave it to them, but that they're fortunate enough to be able to sit down in the place they are, and have the privilege of eating it.
I'm all for these sort of things, but this isn't strong in its argument. A better example would be people saying "Thank God for this touchdown", or more seriously, "Thank the Lord little billy got through surgery okay." No, thank the nurses, doctors, and surgeons who've spent many years training and through school who successfully took care of the guy, and that variables x, y, and z, were in everyone's favour. I think that would be a much stronger example to use.
I agree very much. A friend of mine got into University and was all "Thank God for making my dream come true". I told him, "Nope, thank yourself and your strength through the entire process. You made this happen, not some higher force." He got pretty angry, haha. Ooops. :P
I love it. tbh I find belief in a higher power to be silly enough without people actually believing that the higher power is orchestrating every minute detail of their lives.

Still, it makes a good point.

Thanks, Jesus, for the next-to-slave-labour that these people provide!
